Lavender. Oh, Heavenly Lavender!

July 22, 2016 — When we first reached out to childhood friend, Liz Tomisato, about visiting her in Washington State, she strongly suggested we do so during the Sequim Lavender Festival Weekend. She promised it would be worth it, Oh, yes! She was absolutely right about that!
We don’t have to drive far to see lavender — the fields around us are a sea of the color purple and the smell in the air is heavenly! Even the furniture is lavender colored.
The origins of Lavender: It is believed to have crossed the ocean borders and was brought from the Mediterranean, Middle East and India. Its history goes back some 2,500 years. Just as the flower that bears its name, the color lavender is associated with the youthful, untamed growth found in nature during springtime. The color lavender represents the part of the psyche that, untouched by the weary and troubles of years, retains the vigor and vitality of youth. This encompasses such emotions and mental thought processes imagination, creativity, and because of its association with springtime, the optimistic beginning of new stages in life.
